 Space Jam movie & soundtrack. A dynamic duo! July 18, 2008

It's rare in this day and age that a movie and its accompanying soundtrack(s) goes great together. Warner Sunset and Atlantic Records did an awesome job with the release, "Space Jam-Music From and Inspired by the Motion Picture", the soundtrack to the 1996 flick starring Warner Brothers' legendary icon, Bugs Bunny, and retired NBA superstar, Michael Jordan.
Featuring an array of international superstars and producers, the soundtrack was a definite platinum hit during the late 1990's. What can I say?....every song is an anthem. Songs like Quad City DJs' title track, "Space Jam", Salt-N-Pepa's "Upside Down (Round and Round)", '90's club diva, Robin S. with "Givin' U All That I Got" and D'Angelo's jazz-inspired, "I Found My Smile Again" helps to keep the party jumpin'!
Also, what a CD without its share of love ballad anthems from Monica (the Diane Warren-penned, "For You I Will"), R. Kelly, Changing Faces & Jay-Z ("All of My Days"), which also appeared on Changing Faces' sophomore release and All-4-One's "I Turn to You".
The "song remakes" are also shown here, with songs by Seal (the Steve Miller Band's, "Fly Like An Eagle"), the unusual pairings of the Spin Doctors and hip-hop legend, Biz Markie (KC & the Sunshine Band's, "That's the Way (I Like It") and late, great R&B superstar, Barry White, and comedian, Chris Rock, with their hilarious take on Cheech & Chong's classic, "Basketball Jones".
The real highlights, in my opinion, would be R. Kelly's #1 signature 1996 anthem, "I Believe I Can Fly", and the movie's bad guys entrance theme, the Trackmasters-produced, "Hit 'Em High (The Monstars Anthem)", featuring rap megastars, Flipmode Squad leader, Trevor "Busta Rhymes" Smith, Cypress Hill frontman, Louis "B-Real" Freese, Artis "Coolio" Ivey, Jr., James Todd Smith (aka LL Cool J) and Wu-Tang Clan member, Clifford "Method Man" Smith.
If you've seen this movie a billion times, you'll know that there were only 3 songs that weren't even used in the film at all:
-Coolio and LV with the Curtis Mayfield-sampled, "The Winner"
(but it was played to coincide with movie's home video/DVD release)
-R. Kelly featuring Changing Faces & Jay-Z, "All of My Days"
(which was on Changing Faces's sophomore album)
-Bugs Bunny rapping with fellow Looney Tuner, Daffy Duck, on "Buggin'" (which was penned by none other than former Def Jam Records president, and Beyonce's husband, Shawn "Jay-Z" Carter")
In conclusion, if you only like the soundtrack and not the movie, or vice versa, you've got to admit that the pairing (movie & soundtracks) are great together. Also, if you're into movie scores like I am, buy the Space Jam Motion Picture Score Album, composed & conducted by James Newton Howard.

It's hard to believe Space Jam was made back over 11 years ago in 2008. The soundtrack is a must if you like the movie "Space Jam" "I Believe I Can Fly" "For You I Will" and "The Winner" are just a few of the classics on this album. I used to listen to this a lot in middle school and somewhat in high school. It's one of my favorite soundtracks.

this was such a cool soundtrack to own in 1996. Many of the songs became hits, notably R.Kelly's I Believe I Can Fly and Monica's For You I Will. There are also some good r&b tunes and hip hop numbers on this from artists like seal, salt & pepa, changing faces, coolio etc.

Okay, when the movie came out I went ape$hit (I was like 12) and I ran out to buy the soundtrack because it just had to be good. I was right, for every track her perfectly compliments the movie, ranging from the crowd pumping anthems like Quad City DJ's 'Space Jam' and Spin Doctors 'That's the Way' to inspirational ballads like R. Kelly's ever popular 'I Believe I Can Fly' and Monica's beautiful 'For You I Will' and everything in between. Standouts include the rap fused 'Hit 'Em High' where B-Real, Busta Rhymes, Coolio, LL Cool J and Method Man give us the Monstars theme, and the hilarious 'Basketball Jones' where Barry White trades lines with Chris Rock...insanity. Say what you will about the movie (I loved it) but this album is cream of the crop.
