Amazon.com Kid Rock maintains a remarkable propensity for wearing his contradictions on his sleeve, and more than anything he's previously released, Rock n Roll Jesus finds fuel in unresolved opposites. Is he a hard-core chauvinist ("Half Your Age") or a would-be gentlemen ("When U Love Someone")? Is he a God-fearing everyman ("Blue Jeans and a Rosary") or a bohemian hero ("So Hott")? These questions are nothing new, even if the album at hand takes them to freshly delirious extremes. Ever since he first began shedding his rap/rock posture to be the next Ted Nugent, Kid Rock has constructed his public persona out of full-frontal ambivalence: race, class, sex, religion, money, whatever it takes. This album's bookends--the title song and "bonus" track, "Lowlife (Living the Highlife)"--demonstrate all this irreconcilable nonsense in no uncertain terms, but all his polar wobbling is at least stabilized by a firm commitment to southern-styled rock, tinged at times with gospel, blues, a lingering need to rap ("Sugar"), and a rare, soul-fed instrumental jambalaya ("New Orleans"). In the end, Kid Rock may be a remarkable self-promoter, but a musical Messiah he is not. --Ernesto Sanchez (People en Espanol )
Amazon.com Rock Is Back. After 22 million records sold in the US and a three year hiatus, Kid Rock is back with the brand new album 'Rock N Roll Jesus'. Kid Rock hustled in the Detroit underground for over ten years before he burst into the mainstream in 1999 with the timeless rock anthem "Bawitdaba." Other hits like "Cowboy" and "American Bad A**" followed while ballads like his "Picture" duet with Sheryl Crow and "Only God Knows Why" helped to propel him forward as one of the greatest artists of our time. His latest offering Rock N Roll Jesus is no exception, running the gamut from hard rock to hip-hop to country and soul. Of the album, which Rock co-produced with Rob Cavallo (Green Day, Goo Goo Dolls, My Chemical Romance), he says: "I am proud of every single song on this record. It works from start to finish." ROCK AND ROLL JESUS January 6, 2009 A COUPLE OF GOOD ROCKIN TUNES BUT SINCE IM A COUNTRY GAL I DID NOT CARE FOR THE LANGUAGE IN SOME OF THE RAPS
much improved (compared to last CD) December 28, 2008 Kid rock entered the scene with Grit Sandwhiches. It was oldschool hip hop. He second cd was polyfuze method. It was hip hop, old school, and rock. His third release was Early mornin' stoned pimp. Rock/rap. Notice a pattern. All of the above are mostly rap. Next enters Devil Without a cause. This CD is pure Rap/Rock with the exception of Only God knows why. That was one hit of 5. His next CD, Cocky ,he has only half rap and the other half was southern rock or country, and in my opinion, only two of the non rap, picture and what I learned out on the road, were any good. Then the Kid puts out his next CD, Kid Rock (coun't have called it Son of Detroit could he) dropped rap, and it was his worst selling CD since Early mornin' stoned pimp. Yeah, and it was the worst of all of his CD's.
His latest release dosn't pick up the rap except in Sugar, which is a Devil quality song in my opinion, but he did something right. The title track was very good, so hott was perfect, Amen was pretty good, and so was the bonus track Lowlife (livin the highlife). Th eonly song I think acually sucked was half your age, it just wasn't my style.
Although this was a good CD, I'm hoping the Kid makes the majority of his songs like Sugar, Cowboy, Devil Without a cause, Forever, prodigal Son, dark and grey, with a couple so hott's, amen's, abortion's (the song), and only god knows why.
(maybe a double CD would be a good idea?
Great Album December 17, 2008 I was never really a Kid Rock fan before, now I have to say that I can't get enough of this CD. After seeing the video for Amen, I was kinda hooked on Kid Rock, then he really had me with All Summer Long and had to have this CD. No regrets, I think this is a fantastic CD. He has a new fan in me. Great job Kid. I find myself repeating all the tracks on this CD over and over again (minus 2 tracks in the middle - sorry, can't get past the raunchy lyrics). Kid Rock really is a brilliant artist, can't believe I doubted this in the past. Fantastic five star album. I hope it wins the Grammy, he deserves it!!! Thanks for the great music. I love it.
Rock n Roll Jesus December 17, 2008 Excellent purchase. Handled quickly, price was better than just competitive. If you like Kid Rock, you'll love this CD. Some graphic lyrics, but very good, adult, rock n roll.
LOVE IT December 14, 2008 This cd is great... The different combos of music keeps it interesting. I listen to it every day. I LOVE IT...
